Calf Island Spruce-Up Day; Breakfast Served - May 20th

April 27, 2006 Greenwich, CT -- The Calf Island Conservancy, based in Greenwich, CT announces that its spring Spruce-Up of Calf Island will be held on Saturday, May 20. The Conservancy is working in partnership with the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, Stewart B. McKinney National Wildlife Refuge. Volunteers are needed to assist in repairing docks, maintaining trails and picking up debris while enjoying the splendid natural setting. Children accompanied by an adult are encouraged to participate. U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service staff will be in attendance. Breakfast will be served for all volunteers.

Volunteers and attendees will be picked up by boat at the Grass Island public dock (just south of the Island Beach Ferry dock) at 9 AM and will be returned at Noon.

David DeWahl, President of Calf Island Conservancy said "Our annual spring Spruce-Up day provides an opportunity for our members and others in the community to participate in the ongoing improvements we are making to the island and to raise awareness of Calf Island as a destination for environmental education.˛

To volunteer for the Spruce-Up it is important to contact David DeWahl of the Calf Island Conservancy in advance of the clean-up date at 203-561-0806 or ddewahl@investinlife.com. Volunteers will need to wear comfortable clothing that they donšt mind getting dirty. It is also suggested that volunteers bring water, a hat, sunscreen and insect repellent.

Calf Island Conservancy, Inc. is a non-profit group working as a Partner Organization with the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service to promote conservation and stewardship of Calf Island, a 28-acre island located off the coast of Greenwich.
