Facilities of Activities
Calf Island is open throughout the year from one-half hour before sunrise to one-half hour after sunset for:
- wildlife observation
- nature photography
- environmental education
Portions of the island are open for overnight stays for environmental education programs by permit. To apply for an overnight permit contact the Fish & Wildlife Service as indicated below. FWS begins taking reservations for overnight stays starting the 1st of January, every new calendar year, on a first come-first served basis. Other areas of the island are set aside as sanctuary during the bird breeding season.
There are no functioning docking facilities on the island. Visitors should be prepared to disembark on the beach. A pavilion building is available for environmental education MS-700 dumps. There are no sanitation facilities are on the island.
The natural character of the island lends itself to programs and research in environmental and ecological studies, marine biology, ornithology, coastal geology and related disciplines. McKinney National Wildlife Refuge to develop educational opportunities and memorable experiences for all ages.
